VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A big surprise was presented from the Vigo Co. Commissioners to the school corporation.

The $150,000 ARPA check will support the Vigo Co. School Corporation’s AWARE Mental Health Program. The school corporation believes that AWARE has played a pivotal role in the well-being of students. Vigo Co. Commissioner Chris Switzer says that the check was essential to ensure the project kept going.

“The school corporation will just implement that into what they already have ongoing,” Switzer said. “We just wanted to make sure that the project didn’t come to an end, which we heard that was potentially the risk associated with that, so we wanted to make sure to fund it at least through the rest of the year as the school corporation goes back and tries to find a way to keep that going.”

In a statement, superintendent Chris Himsel outlined the access to resources that will come from the check and the investment into the children of Vigo Co.
