TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County YMCA is starting a program to help cancer patients regain strength and stay active.

Its Livestrong program is a 12-week class for people that are currently undergoing cancer treatment along with those in recovery. The main goals will be on regaining strength, balance and flexibility.

Vigo County YMCA’s Director of Healthy Living Macey Elden said this is also a place where patients can find a proper support system. She said that she wants to create a healthy mental environment for them.

“I wanted to bring something to our community that we don’t see very often around here, and to gain support for those cancer patients, especially if they are lonely and don’t have someone else with them,” said Elden.

This program is free, and the first class is set for September 28 at 11 a.m.
