TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute South Senior Margo Mallory is a standout on the soccer pitch, helping lead the Braves to a 4-0 start this season.

Margo’s talents don’t end with soccer though, they extend to the football field as well. Mallory filled in for Terre Haute South football at kicker in their week 1 contest against Plainfield making three kicks and handling kickoff duties.

“I was going do anything to help those players, Mallory said,” The coaches they did a lot for my brothers when they told me I had a chance to come out and play football it was kind of a little girl’s dream come true, that’s for sure.”

Margo has been around football her entire life. Her late grandfather Bill Mallory is the winningest coach in Indiana Hoosier football history, her father Curt Mallory is the current head football coach for the Indiana State Sycamores, and all of her brothers played football as well. She says it’s special to be the latest member of the Mallory family to make a mark on the game of football.

“My papa used to say some people don’t come to play, we come to perform. I came out there and gave it my all, I wasn’t intimidated at all, but it was a little scary, I look back at it and I’m kind of tiny compared to all of them but when I’m out there I was pretty much fearless.” Mallory said.

Margo wore number 39 on the football field for the Braves, the same number her dad Curt wore when he played at the University of Michigan. Curt says seeing his daughter make her varsity football debut was a truly special moment for him as a father.

“It was really neat, she’s been around it her whole life, never dreamed that she would be playing and to see her out there it was really special,” Curt said, “The only thing I could think is kick it like a soccer ball and that’s what she did, kicked it like a soccer ball. It was just fun to see it happen and just seeing the excitement and joy on her face.”

Margo is a captain for Terre Haute South girls soccer and her head coach Courtney Hubbard says her willingness to help the football team shows why she’s such a good leader.

“She’s a captain out here for a reason,” Hubbard says, “Margo’s intense, Margo’s competitive, Margo likes to try new things and push herself to be there for her teammates and that’s teammates at South too. That means all South Braves, so she was really excited to go and kick.”

Although her talents won’t be needed on the football field the rest of the season, Margo’s senior season with Terre Haute South soccer has just begun. She thinks it could be a special season for the Braves.

“We want it, we want it this year, it’s going to be our year for sure,” Margo says.
