TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County History Center is hosting its September’s Time Travelers Club event at the Goldsmith House nestled within the Terre Haute Farrington’s Grove Historic District.

The Goldsmith House is an Italianate-style home built 1876 by ice merchant Luther Hager. In 1907, it was purchased by its namesake Frederick Goldsmith, a wholesale grocer. In the 1950s, the house was converted and enlarged to function as a funeral home.

“The historic Goldsmith house is most commonly known as the P.J. Ryan Funeral Home,” said Curator of the Vigo County History Center, Suzy Quick. “Most people are familiar with the building, so we are looking forward to getting inside and learning more about its history and actually getting a tour of the place and seeing some of the renovations that have been done,”

Today, it has been bought back to its 1907 size and converted into a bed-and-breakfast location. The bed-and-breakfast is even available for reservations.

You can join the Vigo County Travelers Club on Tuesday, September 3rd at 5:30 p.m. to learn more about this historic Terre Haute building.

The event is free for members of Indiana Landmarks and/or the Vigo County History Center. And Additional attendees’ costs just $7 dollars per person.

Admission for non-members can be purchased at the History Center or on the History Center website .
