    Terre Haute Catholic Charities benefitting from Feeding America donations.

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Dollar General has partnered with Feeding America to help with donations to fight food insecurity in the United States including right here in the Wabash Valley.

    In a release from Dollar General, they highlighted the donations made to Indiana specifically through eight food banks across the state including Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank. Dollar General says they have donated 780,000 pounds of food to these food banks in Indiana communities in the last seven months.

    “Through these donations, we are proud to help combat hunger and increase access to nutritious foods for residents in need ,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. “With approximately 75% of Americans living within five miles of a Dollar General store, we are uniquely positioned to serve communities and make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors. We continue to be grateful for Feeding America’s ongoing partnership as we continue our efforts.”

    1 in 4 children in Vigo County experience food insecurity

    In the U.S. 44 million people are food insecure according to Feeding America’s statistics . Since 2021 Dollar General has donated more than $4 million and more than 37 million meals through in-kind food donations to Feeding America.
