Chief Shaefer said the fire started at the edge of an active cell, a single-waste holding unit within the property, but burned back into the cell. To combat the fire, the chief said an excavator was used to dig the area out by 8 feet.

The chief said they remained on the scene until 3 a.m. Thursday. Union Fire Territory was assisted by the Sullivan City Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
