TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The 12 Points Public Market has officially opened its doors to the public, and several locals arrived at 7 a.m. sharp to get a first look.

The opening of the market symbolizes the completion of a vision years in the making. Owner Pat Goodwin says he is just doing his part to restore his neighborhood.

“I really took an interest in 12 Points six or seven years ago trying to help revitalize, and this idea just kept growing,” Goodwin said. “Originally it started small with just helping with cleanups, then it was well, maybe we should buy a piece of property, and then it turned into maybe we should run a business here, so that’s where we are and I’ll let you know how it goes.”

The first day with customers provided an indication on how things are going. Terre Haute resident Katie Dailey says she loved her first experience at the market.

“I really love the eclectic art and the ceiling art hanging from the ceiling, the comfortable seating,” Dailey said. “I love the windows and the lighting as the sun was coming up this morning, and there was a nice bustle and all of the different sounds of the cooks cooking and the smells coming, very nice.”

Goodwin says that this is just the beginning, and there is plenty more to be excited about.

“In the coming weeks, we’ll have lots of special events going on, but for now it’s breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Goodwin said. “We don’t have the alcohol license yet for the pub, but we hope to have that in early October.”

Dailey’s husband Christopher says the diversity of the market already has them planning more visits.

“We’ve got I think five places we’ve got to try out here, so we have at least four more trips back, if not more.”

Goodwin also hinted that the market will feature live music and other events in the near future. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
