BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — If you’re looking for a place to retire your old American flag, French Funeral Home now has a flag box.

Just outside their back door, there is a wooden box that anyone, at any time, can put their old flag into.

Then, once a year, the funeral home will schedule an event with local VFW’s, American Legions, and the Boy Scouts to perform a traditional flag burning ceremony.

The idea came from Nick French, the son of the owners, when they had a flag, they wanted to retire, but didn’t know how to do so.

The owner says the response to the project has been positive.

It’s very welcomed by people. They can come by, like I said, at their convenience, they can bring that by. They don’t have to wait to see if we are here or not, or if we’re busy. They can just bring it in and know that it’s being cared for and respectfully retired.

    Susie French – Owner

The box is open to all flags, U.S. or state.
