    Sunday’s crash in Illinois leaves one dead

    MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: A single-car crash on Sunday in Mattoon left one man dead.

    According to the Illinois State Police, the wreck occurred at around 4:50 a.m. A 2000 Chevrolet S10 was traveling north on Route 45 approaching the Coles County Road 250 intersection when for unknown reasons left the road on the right side. The driver then drove through a ditch on the east side of the road, then struck an embankment, and overturned. The sole occupant of the vehicle was 31-year-old Joshua E. Lawhorn of Vandalia and he was pronounced dead at the scene.


    A wreck occurred on Sunday morning at the intersection of Illinois Route 45 and Coles County Road 250 North

    Sunday morning Troop 7 units of the Illinois Sate Police responded to the scene of a single-car crash at the intersection in Mattoon. Northbound traffic on Route 45 was detoured at Coles County Road 250 North and southbound traffic on Route 45 was detoured at Laker Avenue.

    Within a few hours, police were able to reopen Route 45 free of obstructions. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
