    Fire crews respond to vacant Terre Haute house fire

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: A WTWO reporter on scene spoke with Doug Curry THFD Fire Commander who said the Terre Haute Fire Department responded to a fire early Thursday morning at a single building fire at 1521 8th Avenue at 6:05 a.m.

    The home was considered condemned but there was one male occupant in the building though no injuries were reported. The floor however partially collapsed and the fire was heaviest in the basement and on the first floor.

    The fire was fully extinguished and the cause is still under investigation.


    ORIGINAL: Terre Haute Fire Department (THFD) responded to a fire in a vacant house on the city’s north side Thursday morning.

    According to Doug Curry, THFD Fire Commander, crews responded to the 1500 block of 8th Avenue just after 6 a.m. Upon arrival, Curry said heavy flames were present on the first floor and in the basement.

    Curry noted the house is considered a condemned house; however, there was one occupant at the time of the fire.

    No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
