GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Greene County General Hospital (GCGH) is now home to a new drug disposal drop box.

The drop box gives the community a place to properly dispose of unused and expired medications twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

The drop box is located inside the emergency room entrance of the hospital, near the GCGH Police Department.

All personal information must be removed from the packaging. Pill bottles, plastic bags, and packaging must be firmly sealed to avoid spilling.

“If we were able to do this year-round we might get the drugs off the streets a little sooner,” Bryan Woodall, Chief of Police at GCGH said. “That way people know they can come here for treatment and they can come here to get rid of their unused medication as well.”

Collected medications are then transported to Indianapolis where they are incinerated.

“This new drug drop box fulfills a need in our community for people who want to safely and securely discard medications. We’re happy to be able to provide this convenient and much-needed service here at Greene County General Hospital,” Woodall stated.
