PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A Brazil man, who was recently sentenced to 20 years for voluntary manslaughter in Clay County, was sentenced to 20 years for his crime in Putnam County.

Jon McGuff appeared in Putnam County Court for sentencing after changing his plea on August 1 to guilty to Level 2 Felony Burglary, according to Putnam County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Austin Malayer.

The charges stem from an incident in Greencastle earlier this year. According to court documents, McGuff shot a person in Putnam County. Police reporting on the incident indicates McGuff and another man knocked on the door of a residence, hid from the view of a peephole, and then rushed the person who opened the door of the home. Court documents report that a fight ensued in the residence, which later led to a person being shot. Police reported that the person was shot in the clavicle on the left side, but the bullet exited on the right side in the area of their neck and throat.

In August, McGuff was sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for voluntary manslaughter in Clay County. McGuff was credited 521 served from his previous stints in Jail while awaiting sentencing from May 12, 2023, to December 18, 2023, and March 5, 2024, to August 20, 2024, and the day of sentencing. In total McGuff was also fined $10, as well as assessed costs of $189 and the public defender fee of $100. The amount of $12,000 was awarded in restitution in favor of the victim’s family.

His sentences will be served consecutively.
