A professor and 7 ISU students get sworn into local law enforcement

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Monday afternoon seven students and a professor were sworn into local law enforcement.

They will be joining Indiana State University`s High Tech Crime Unit and Cold Case Unit through the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office. This partnership is helping students gain experience by investigating and working actual criminal cases.

The unit receives annual funding from the state government to allow students to be sworn in as digital forensic investigators.

Director of the Vigo County High Tech Unit Jason James said these students will have an immediate impact in the community.

“We are able to provide the manpower, do the digital forensics, and the real-world cases to turn things around within days to a couple of weeks to let detectives do what they do best,” said James.

James added that they expect more students to attend ISU in order to have a chance to be a part of these programs.
