TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Police Department held its annual First Responder Rally Wednesday in Fairbanks Park.

The night was fully of games, demonstrations, and free food.

Terre Haute PD says this is a chance for members of the public to meet these first responders in a different light.

An event like this is just building relationships with the crowd. We have the fire department, the police, and everybody in that first responder realm, we’re the good guys. We’re here to help you. We can provide resources for you. We want that to help develop relationships and make current relationships even better.

Sgt. Justin Sears – Public Information Officer – THPD

The most exciting event of the night was the police dog demonstration. Officers would dress up and appear to be running away to show how these dogs work.

One dog, a new member of the fire department, made his first appearance to the public at the event.

First night out for Max the fire dog, so Max is out here walking around. He’s the ignitable liquids detection dog for the city and the county.

Darrick Scott – Fire Chief – THFD

Events like this one have even made some kids consider the profession when they get older.

To learn more about how it is to be a policeman and how they do their job. Just helping our community.

Deegan Dunlap – Terre Haute resident

Terre Haute Police say the turnout was great, as they were expecting around 1,000 people and gave out over 1,500 hotdogs.
