Over 500 students compete in Ivy Tech’s Cob and Cog event

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Friday morning over 500 Wabash Valley students competed at Ivy Tech’s Cob and Cog event.

These 23 competitions were centered around multiple different areas of engineering and agriculture. Assistant Dean of the School of Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Sciences for Ivy Tech Molly Joseph said this introduces these students to these two board occupations.

She said it also allows them to carve out a future path for themselves.

“We have great sponsors here, great people from industry, and we are hoping that they get to do a little bit of networking and become familiar with them and just have fun here today,” said Joseph.

The CEO of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture Ted McKinney was also in attendance. He said that competitions like this take him back to his youth and he can’t wait to see what the next generation has to offer in these fields.

“The degree to which we could introduce somebody to their passion in life through contests like this is golden,” said McKinney. “That is exactly what we want to pursue, and this is a great day to do that.”
