    Suspect arrested in downtown Terre Haute break-ins

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: According to a media release from the Terre Haute Police Department (THPD), the suspect in two downtown Terre Haute business break-ins was detained and arrested.

    Indiana State University Police Department officers located and detained the suspect who was believed to be responsible for two downtown burglaries that happened early Wednesday morning.

    Terre Haute Police Detectives then responded and interviewed the suspect. The release goes on to say that a collaboration with the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of the suspect. A summons was issued for the suspect to appear in Terre Haute City Court on multiple charges including:

    • Criminal Mischief
    • Trespass

    The release mentioned the suspect’s apparent mental health issues, which were believed to be compounded by methamphetamine use. The suspect was placed under emergency detention and transported to Union Hospital for further evaluation and future care at Hamilton Center.

    Terre Haute Police Department (THPD) is currently investigating two robberies committed in downtown Terre Haute in the early hours of Wednesday.

    The Petty Pit Stop and Serendipity Salon both called in incidents of criminal mischief and possible burglaries to the THPD according to Sgt. Justin Sears. Sears stated that preliminary investigations state that the incidents occurred during the early morning hours.
