TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Council on Domestic Abuse Inc. is promoting awareness through a series of community events.

Wednesday evening, CODA hosted its Annual Candlelight Vigil at the Fairbanks Park Amphitheater. This event is to remember family and friends lost to domestic violence. Some will share stories of hope for those still suffering.

On October 11, CODA will have its day of giving, where community businesses come together to raise funds for the organization. And October 17, will be Purple Thursday where Everyone is encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

Guest Speaker Janet Hardman lost her daughter by domestic violence three years ago and she hopes these events help others who are going through the same.

“That’s what I’m hoping for that maybe we can get the word out. And domestic violence will stop because it needs to end it needs to now,” she said.
