PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Parke County has decided to reinstate its burn ban along with 9 other counties in Indiana.

The Parke County Board of Commissioners decided to reinstate the county’s burn ban after receiving advice from local fire chiefs regarding the dry conditions. This is ahead of Parke County’s multiple covered bridge festival events.

Parke County is just one of 10 counties currently under a countywide burn ban. The rest are listed below.

    • Benton County
    • Cass County
    • Fulton County
    • Jasper County
    • LaPorte County
    • Miami County
    • Newton County
    • Parke County
    • Vermillion County
    • White County

The criteria for the burn ban are as follows.

    • no campfires or recreational fires unless enclosed in a fire ring with the dimensions of 23 inches in diameter and at least six inches high or larger
    • no open burning of any kind using wood or other combustible matter except grills.
    • no burning of debris like timber or vegetation including from building construction or windstorm debris
    • no use of burn barrels for any open burning near residential structures; charcoal from grills is not to be disposed of until the flame is entirely extinguished.

Parke County also strongly encourages people to limit any personal firework use.
