FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Phones were ringing all day as WTWO and WAWV teamed up with the Salvation Army to raise money for hurricane victims.

On Thursday, after a full day of phone calls, over $29,000 was raised.

“You guys are coming together to help a community miles and miles away,” said Mike McKee, with the Salvation Army. “Neighbors helping neighbors and these neighbors you’ll probably never meet. It tells me something about this area and tells me something about the people.”

Many members of the community including city officials, county commissioners, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Terre Haute Police Department answered phones all day Thursday.

Every dollar raised goes directly to help with hurricane relief efforts.

“We know what it’s like to go through something like this,” said Tim Sanders, General Manager and Vice President of WTWO. “Last year, we had our area affected by tornadoes in Sullivan and Robinson. But, not even close to the scale what they’ve dealt with down in the south. But we know it’s very important to help out and give back like people did for our communities.”

If you missed the Hurricane Relief Telethon, you can still make donations to help the hurricane victims online at this website .

Abigail Sheple is hula hooped to raise funds for the WTWO hurricane relief telethon at Dugger Jr. High. She started 4:30 pm with a goal of three hours, and she completed the three hours and raised 350 dollars. Her little sister Allyrose joined in for the fun. Way to go girls!
