    Several injured in Knox County coal mine accident

    BRUCEVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: According to Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin, first responders were called to the Sunrise Coal Mine One, Portal Two in Knox County for an accident involving a vehicle that transferred miners underground early Friday morning.

    Vantlin stated, that as a result of the accident, six people were injured. Two people were transported by lifeline, and four were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The severity of the injuries are unknown at this time.

    According to Vantlin, MSHA is investigating the incident. WTWO has reached out to MSHA for comment.

    BRUCEVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Original: According to the Knox County Dispatch, a coal mine accident in Bruceville caused injuries early Friday morning, October 11.

    The Sunrise Coal Mine One Portal Two, is located on North P Perry Road in Knox County.

    Dispatch confirmed that there were injuries but did not disclose the amount of people involved or the severity of their injuries. However, dispatch did confirm that two medical helicopters were present at the location.

    There is little information at this time, but WTWO/WAWV will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
