BRIDGETON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With the Covered Bridge Festival taking place this week, traffic is higher than usual.

In the town of Bridgeton, most of the roads are closed so people can walk freely. However, just in front of the Bridgeton School, the road is not blocked off.

The owners of the school say that during last year’s festival, the road was closed to allow walkers to safely travel the entire town. They say the movement of the barrier would have no effect on parking, or any other aspect of the festival.

We would like to have the barricade moved down just for the safety of the people. The road was closed in 2023 for safety purposes. If 99% of the town is closed, why isn’t the extra 1% closed down to Webster. The whole point of closing the road was for safety, so why isn’t the whole town closed for safety.

Parke County Commissioner Dan Collum says the decision to close the road last year was made due to the growth of the festival, but it is a complicated situation since Bridgeton is only two blocks wide.

He adds that if a problem arises, County Commissioners will make a call to close it.
