CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The United Way of the Wabash Valley has launched the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Clay County.

Children from birth to age 5 in Clay County can now be enrolled in the program to receive one free book per month at no cost to their families. The books received are personalized with the name of the child and personally mailed to the homes of those enrolled. The United Way of Wabash Valley said that this is part of their mission to support early childhood education and has already launched the program in Vigo County as well. The Imagination Library is made possible by using funds from the Talking is Teaching Program.

Dorothy Chambers, Community Impact Director, stated “The Dolly Parton Imagination Library not only builds a lifelong love of reading, but it also helps build foundational skills that are crucial for a child’s success in school and life. Reading stories aloud to young children, starting at birth, is one of the most important activities caregivers can engage in. United Way is honored to be a local partner in Vigo and Clay counties for this well-loved program.”

Parents and caregivers of eligible children can visit the website to check availability and complete the registration process. For any more information, you can reach out to Matthew Swift at 812-235-6287 or email at mswift@uwwv.org.
