BEAVER, WV (WVNS) — Governor Jim Justice and state officials visited New River Community and Technical College in Raleigh County to deliver two grants for programs at the school on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

The first check was a $3 million dollar grant that will go towards the college’s brand new aviation program. The second grant is worth $500,000 that will benefit the Hospitality and Tourism Education Program.

Governor Justice said the money will be a multiplier effect and will eventually benefit the entire college.

“Really and truly, the thing you’ve got to realize is our colleges have to have funds to be able to operate and everything. We as a state, with these incredible surpluses that we’ve built and all the different things we’ve done, what we have to do is help the colleges, and then the colleges absolutely make it all happen and put it into action,” said Justice.

Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby was also there for the check presentation.

Officials said these grants are a huge win for not only the college, but the entire state.
