Pool at New River Park set to open on June 4th

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Sharon Dempsey Memorial Pool at New River Park in Beckley is set to open June 4, 2024, according to Beckley Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Gray Baker.

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, lifeguards were busy power-washing the pool area and preparing for sun lovers of all ages.

Baker said pool staff had faced a number of obstacles but they look forward to welcoming swimmers.

“We’ve had to empty the pool out three times now because of the water in the deep end, because of the recent rains,” said Baker. “Every time, we have to clean it out all over again. So two steps forward, one step backwards.”

Baker added that delivery issues for the pool filters have been a challenge, but the pool should be filled with water and ready to go by the first weekend in June.
