The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) nominated West Virginia University golf head coach Sean Covich as a finalist for the 2024 Dave Williams Award Friday morning.

The award honors the coach of the year in college golf. Covich is one of five finalists. Jake Amos (East Tennessee State), Nick Clinard (Auburn) Andrew DiBitetto (North Carolina) and Scott Limbaugh (Vanderbilt) were also nominated.

The Mountaineers finished tied for third place in the Rancho Sante Fe Regional earlier this month, which clinched the program’s first NCAA Championships berth since 1947 .

WVU golf won its first tournament of the season in September at the Red Bandanna Invitational in Verona, New York, with a +8 performance as a team. Max Green also won the individual crown with a -3 weekend, kickstarting a phenomenal junior campaign that included a Big 12 Conference Golfer of the Month honor.

Over the course of the year, the Mountaineers logged nine top-ten finishes as a team.

WVU will begin play at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, at 11:30 a.m. ET on Friday.
