HINTON, WV (WVNS) – Construction was nearing completion on the newest additions to Summers County Schools on August 1, 2024.

The new middle school classrooms and offices will be completed to start the 2024 school year.

The gymnasium, however, faced some setbacks in the production of supplies. It will be completed by the following month.

It’s one of those things where you get disappointed, you get frustrated, and at the end of the day, you can only control what you can control. I got to control my thoughts and put a best foot forward.”

There is light at the end of the tunnel though! They will have 12 different classrooms ready for the students.

The students will also have a new STEM Lab complete with new cabinets and accessories.

This is big news for the middle school students, who Warvel acknowledges have not had an identity since the old middle school closed.

You have huge engagement when you can play and fail, lets use that as terminology. That happens all the time in sports, well you can do that in a classroom as well. If you are engaged in something, you don’t care how many times you fail, you keep wanting to do it.”

The 2024 school year could be a challenge for Summers County given the failure to pass the recent school levy.

For now, Warvel is just happy the newest additions are nearly complete.

I’m glad people are getting excited which that’s what you want, you want people excited. It’s just hard to let people know ‘no, not yet.’ I hate to say that but that’s my word ‘yet’ and get rid of the word ‘yet’ to say ‘we’re ready’.”
