PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — The addition of a distinguished radiation oncologist was announced by WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.
PikeView High School senior named the 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of West Virginia Dr. Joseph M. Baisden, M.D., Ph.D., a distinguished radiation oncologist, will be joining the team at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH).
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Baisden. He has a long history of providing excellent care to the people of this region, and we are excited that he is joining the PCH team. Dr. Baisden is the first of several key positions we will announce as we move toward opening our new comprehensive cancer center in Princeton in 2027.

July 31, 2024 was Dr. Baisden’s first day, and his office will be located in the Radiation Therapy Department at the PCH Bluefield Campus.
4 students from southern West Virginia chosen for prestigious teaching scholarship Dr. Baisden was born in Winchester, Virginia, and raised in Romney. In 1995, he received his bachelor’s degree in biology from West Virginia University (WVU), completed his M.D. and Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, and cell biology from WVU in 2003, and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Illinois in 2022.
He is no stranger to this market. He has been in the market for a significant time. We are really excited on the heels of the announcement of our $65 million expansion project, both for the relocation of our emergency department and support services, but also our comprehensive cancer center. We could not be more excited for Dr. Baisden’s addition to our team. He is going to help landscape how this is going to look and how radiation oncology is going to be cared for moving forward.

Baisden’s career also included finishing his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Virginia, where he served as chief resident from 2007 to 2008. Other aspects of his career include being the radiation oncologist at Louisville Radiation Oncology, assistant professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School Radiation Oncology Department, and medical director at GenesisCare of WV.
Awards that Dr. Baisden earned throughout his career include the Constable/Agarwal Award for Resident Research, the Radiological Society of North America Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award, as well as being involved in key publications and presentations in the field.
