Tuesday morning we shake the low 60 degree chill with plenty of sunshine to start. Temps moves steadily into the upper 80s for the afternoon. By midday, a few clouds start to build in with a disturbance towards the Great Lakes rising humidity levels in the upper atmosphere. Most of us will be dry the entire day, but a small chance of an isolated shower across our westward facing ridgelines through Pocahontas/Greenbrier county towards the later afternoon/early evening. After sunset, showers that do form will fade quickly with many of us enjoying a mild night with lows in the upper 60s.

Wednesday a cold front is expected to slide across the region with mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers. A rumble of thunder is possible with the afternoon heat as highs push into the low to mid 80s. The remnants of Hurricane Debby will be closely monitored as it stalls over the Carolinas. Some tropical influence along our cold front could produce locally heavy rainfall, especially towards our eastern state line. How Debby interacts with our cold front is still up for debate, but it’ll be worth watching for localized flood risks. Clouds remain stubborn as do the showers into the night as our cold front also stalls just towards our east.

Thursday will be a split day with our eastern mountains continue to deal with mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers, some heavy at times. As the tropical low nudges northeast, it won’t take much for all of us to see scattered showers filter in from time to time in the afternoon. Rainfall totals towards McDowell/Wyoming will be far less than those towards Greenbrier/Monroe counties. That is if Debby remains on track towards the east. We’ll keep you posted with any changes as we see them. Either way, the chances for showers remains true, it’s the rainfall amount that may change.

Friday an area of low pressure that once was Hurricane Debby will keep enough instability around our region for scattered showers but as northwest winds carry in drier air, we’ll see a bit more sunshine between pesky pop-up showers. Once we push into the late afternoon, highs nudge the 80 degree mark with our mountains falling just shy in the mid to upper 70s. By the evening, our low travels northeast, slowly, allowing a few towards the west to dry out a bit but our eastern counties continue with scattered showers from time to time.

Saturday morning will be soggy for our eastern counties with a few more breaks than not for our western counties. With cooler, and drier air moving in from the northwest, we’ll begin to see a clearing line move southeast through the day. Showers fade some towards the late afternoon with some sunshine peeking through for our western counties. Highs struggle into the upper 70s. Eastern mountains will hold on to the risk of a shower or two longer into the night. Highs struggle into the upper 70s.

Sunday most west of I-77 will enjoy a dry day with sunshine returning more and more as the day goes on. Highs are comfortable in the mid and upper 70s. East of I-77, mostly cloudy skies and a isolated sprinkle early will fade by midday. Highs for the mountains will just cross the 70 degree mark for an almost autumn preview day. With clearing skies into the overnight, lows dip back into the mid to upper 50s. A few higher spots could make a run for the 50 degree mark by Monday morning!

In your extended forecast, as the State Fair of West Virginia ramps us, so do the pesky rain chances as it “always rains at the fair” Temps rise above average after a brief cool down thanks to Debby, but rebound as the week continues. Highs in the upper 80s and higher humidity will give us those afternoon pop up storms. Aside from those, we look to find ourselves in a typical August pattern.
