FAIRLEA, WV (WVNS) – The State Fair of West Virginia is a huge event, which calls for lots of security across the board.

How safe are the rides at the State Fair?

They employ their own private security company and they also have the West Virginia State Police on the fairgrounds to ensure a safe fair for everyone.

They also will be using metal detectors at the gate entrance.

Kelly Collins, the CEO of the State Fair told 59News how they are approaching fair week.

“We want to make sure that we are checking everyone thoroughly, but at the same time we want to get them into the gates fast. So, we work every year we try to improve the ingress into the fairgrounds and just make sure that we are getting folks in here fast, but safe as well,” said Collins.

Large bags are subject to search, as they do not enforce a clear bag policy.

Collins also said that they will try their best to get people off the road and into the fair as fast as they can, but she urged fairgoers to be patient.

Greenbrier East music boosters will be helping get everyone parked as fast and smoothly as they possibly can.
