    Alerts Issued for Our Region

    • Flood Watch until 8 PM Friday for Pocahontas County and until midnight Saturday for Giles, Bland, Mercer, Summers and Greenbrier counties. Steady rain from Debby tonight into Friday morning could cause low-lying flooding issues and flooded roadways. Always remember to never cross flooded roads! Turn around, don’t drown!

Tonight features rain – especially the farther east you are – as Debby’s remnants arrive and through. In addition to steady rains in our eastern counties in Pocahontas, Greenbrier Monroe and Giles counties – wind gusts up to 30 mph could combine to cause a few power outages.

Flooding rains will be held to our eastern counties with light showers expected west of the turnpike, where not much rain accumulation will occur. Temperatures tonight will drop back into the mid 60s. Remember to never try to cross high water – turn around, don’t drown!

Friday brings a high chance for rain early on still in our eastern counties. Debby will work its way out of the region by mid-morning and we’ll be left with a few scattered showers by the afternoon. In total from Debby, a half inch to one inch of rain is expected along the I-77 corridor, with 2 to 4 inches of rain expected in our eastern counties over the mountain areas. Less rainfall is expected in our western counties, with very little expected once you head west to Welch. High temperatures will be held into the 70s with abundant clouds through midday and clearing taking place in the afternoon.

Saturday begins with a few clouds but we’ll see plenty of sunshine by mid-morning. Skies will clear during the afternoon from west to east as high pressure nudges in from the west with plenty of sunshine area-wide by dinner time. With a cooler airflow from the northwest behind Debby’s remnants, we’ll see highs only in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday looks great! We’ll see mostly sunny skies and it’s a cooler day than what we’ve experienced recently with morning temperatures in the upper 50s and highs only in the mid 70s. With low humidity, it’ll feel more like September outside!

Monday once again begins on a cool start with mid 50s in the lowlands – don’t be shocked to see a few 40s in the higher peaks! Plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control keeps the humidity low with a northerly breeze and highs only around 80 which is right on par for normal for this time of year.

Tuesday sees our chances for rain on the increase with a weak disturbance scooting through. The day won’t be a washout but we’ll have occasional showers and perhaps a rumble or two of thunder with highs around 80.

Wednesday provides the risk for just an isolated shower or two. Otherwise, we’ll be partly cloudy with highs in the low 80s.

Thursday continues the scattered shower chance, though there will be plenty of dry time with high temperatures in the mid 80s.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we dry out for Friday before a few isolated shower chances return on Saturday and into Sunday. Overall, it’s a great week of weather for the State Fair of West Virginia once we get through tonight! High temperatures will be in the mid 80s Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
