BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Summer might not quite be over yet, but one local pool has already reached the end of its season.

The New River Pool closed for the season, as many of their lifeguards are going back to school.

The year began with around 12 lifeguards, but dwindled down to around 6 for the week leading up to August 10, 2024, as the others went back to school.

Policeman’s Pool is in full swing for summer

Pool manager Ashleigh Brammer told 59News it has been a good ride.

“We have had a couple different days where we have had different competitions that we do during pool breaks just to interact with the kids. It would have been better if the slide would have been open this year, but we just try to interact the kids during pool breaks to help with the slide not being open this year,” said Brammer.

The New River Pool workers did just that. For their final day, they held diving board competitions, limbo, and a dance party among other activities for kids to send off the lifeguards for the season.
