FAIRLEA, WV (WVNS) — Project Healing Waters set up at the State Fair of West Virginia for the 2024 season.

This group brings veterans together to go fly fishing. The national organization started back in 2005. Members of the group told 59News their main goal is to simply bring in more members.

Ted Martin is a member of the group. He told 59News it is important for veterans to come together because they understand one another.

They don’t have to explain everything. It’s people who can communicate on the same level, same degree, and have the same problems. Instead of talking about it, we just go and do something else. We go fishing.”

For the 2024 year, the group is raffling off a handmade fishing rod the group put together. In order to have a chance to win the rod, fairgoers can purchase a ticket at their booth.
