GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WVNS) – Inside the West Virginia Building at the State Fair is an elaborate array of patterns, stitches, shapes and designs hanging above you!

The needlework department at the State Fair is home to quilts, cross-stitch, needlepoint, crochet and more with an estimated 400 to 500 pieces!

The best blankets, quilts and throws for cozy season

Susan Smead, Superintendent of the Needlwork Department says it’s about more than just making a hand-made product.

“It’s saving the old arts – it’s keeping them alive. A lot of the people that have always done this for years – we’re losing them, so we want to pass those skills along, keep them alive,” comments Susan Smead, the Superintendent of the Needlework Department at the State Fair.

Quilts are trending this summer, and Grandma would be proud

Smead says the State Fair is looking for even more quilts to add for 2025! You can view the quilts and other handmade pieces through Saturday evening.
