GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WVNS) – If you’re looking for some ridiculously large veggies while at the State Fair, look no farther than the Big Stuffed Division in West Virginia Building.

A 1700-pound pumpkin was brought in via forklift by multiple people, with other seriously large tomatoes, cabbage, zucchini and more.

Jennifer Sprouce, Agricultural Products Superintendent at the State Fair says one of the best things about this category and in general at the state fair is seeing heirloom vegetables – particularly tomatoes – that have been passed down for generations.

What to plant in August: best vegetables and flowers to grow

“This year we had some bigger entries than we’ve had in the past in our big stuffed division. For one, we have our largest pumpkin that we have had ever brought right into the fair. It is over 1700 pounds. We’ve had some other larger pumpkins come in this year. We had some tomatoes that came in – I think the winner was over 4 pounds. So we’re starting to get some big growers come in. There’s a lot of interest in that,” says Jennifer Sprouse, Agricultural Products Superintendent at the State Fair of West Virginia.

Is the State Fair of West Virginia good for business?

You can see the giant veggies on display at the State Fair through Saturday. The 1700-pound pumpkin will be carved at the state fair on Saturday at noon by the owner, Dr. Chris Rodebaugh.

The State Fair is seeking more entries in their Big Stuffed Division next year!
