TAZEWELL, WV (WVNS) — John James is a that name might sound familiar. He is the former original lead singer of the Christian mega group “The Newsboys.”

Shriners set up for donations to help children at the State Fair

After being removed from the group, he fell into substance abuse to numb the pain of losing everything because of the mistakes he made in life.

“Addictions come in many forms,” James said. “I though as long as I was high, as long as I was intoxicated, I didn’t have to face the consequences of my shipwrecked life.”

Using his faith in God and with the help of others, John made his way into recovery and uses his experiences to help people in the two Virginias with their recovery. John said his experiences and those of others have helped him find some kindred spirits in the people of West Virginia and Virginia.

“There’s also great need here, as there is in every area. That’s why we totally endorse what Destiny Church with the ministry [does] with folks on their journey of wellness and getting free from addictions,” James said.

James is not only helping people facing addiction, but for the first time in twenty-seven years he is releasing a studio album called “God of the Second Chance.”
