BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – The 7th Annual Honey Festival swarmed the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine as a fun way to raise funds for the Raleigh County Beekeepers Cooperative Association.

The entire event was free to the public and discounted tours at the Coal Mine were offered to join in on the celebrations.

“The Exhibition Coal Mine, in its essence, is an educational place and so we just broaden our education a little bit from the coal heritage we tell people about to how important bees are and all coal miners back in the day used to keep a bee hive,” said Leslie Gray Baker, Director of Parks and Rec for the City of Beckley.

Beckley’s 7th Annual Honey Festival will sweeten up your weekend!

Long Point String Band set the mood with old-time music of jubilee, as vendors set up and several educational bee demonstrations were held.

“It is all about educating the people of southern West Virginia about bee keeping and how important the bees are to life on earth. I learned that if something happens to the little honeybees we’re not far behind,” said Gray Baker.

If you missed out, you are in luck! The Honey Festival is held every year on the third Saturday of August.
