    Cabell County man pleads guilty to federal gun crime

    HUNTINGTON, WV (WVNS) — A Cabell County man pleaded guilty to a federal gun crime on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

    According to a press release, 35-year-old Steven Patrick Crabtree, of Huntington, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

    According to court documents, members of law enforcement responded to reports of a person shooting at people outside of a house in the Huntington area of Cabell County on March 4, 2024.

    Once at the scene, officers located Crabtree, who matched the description of the alleged shooting suspect, and a stolen handgun.

    People with prior felony convictions cannot possess a firearm or ammunition according to federal law.

    According to the press release, Crabtree, who had previous felony convictions for conspiracy to deliver not less than 10 grams nor more than 100 grams of heroin in Wayne County Circuit Court on May 30, 2018, and attempt to commit a felony in Cabell County Circuit Court on March 21, 2017, knew that he could not have a gun in his possession.

    Wyoming County man pleads guilty to grand larceny in laundromat theft

    Crabtree’s sentencing is scheduled for November 25, 2024, and he faces up to 15 years in prison, a maximum of three years of parole, and a $250,000 fine.

    The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who thanked the Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their work on the investigation.
