    Mercer County Schools to host learning event at the Chuck Mathena Center

    PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) — Mercer County Schools will be hosting a special event for Kindergarten to Second grade students at the Chuck Mathena Center.

    New school attendance policy in effect in West Virginia

    According to a press release from Mercer County Schools, the event will be on Friday, September 20, 2024 and will focus on the importance of diversity in education. It will also feature fun and engaging presentations by Jimmy Jenkins, Co-Founder and CEO of Playwatch Kids, Mr. Prather, the host of “Move with Mr. Prather,” and Dr. Eleanor Smalley, President and CEO of JASON Learning.

    The press release from Mercer County Schools also shared that Playwatch Kids is dedicated to creating educational content that talks about the topic of diversity and how it fits in our world, giving children of all backgrounds the chance to be in stories they watch. JASON Learning is nonprofit organization that educates and inspires children through STEM programs and activities. With these two organizations partnering up, they can bring high quality education and resources to classrooms nationwide.

    This event will give children the opportunity to interact in fun songs such as “That’s an Opposite,” while learning at the same time. The Playwatch Kids videos include diverse characters that appeal to young learners in educational media. JASON Learning supports this educational attempt and provides teachers with fun and educational activities that can be used with the videos or when they finish. The activities help students in the subjects that include, Math, Science, Reading, and essential Skills and Strategies.

    All Playwatch Kids material and content can be accessed through the JASON Digital Platform. Mercer County Schools have been using this content and their library continues to grow with this content as well.
