Tonight features mostly clear skies and the coldest night since May 31st, when we dropped to 40 degrees! We won’t quite be that cold tonight, but we won’t be far off that, as lows drop into the mid 40s. Above 3,500 feet – patchy instances of frost are possible in those cold spots under a starry sky. The full moon will still look nearly full being only one day after being full – it should shine brightly in the night sky! Patchy fog is possible toward dawn.

Wednesday continues our taste of fall, with mostly sunny conditions and high temperatures only around 70 degrees. Our average high temperature this time of year is 80 degrees, so we’ll be about 10 degrees cooler than average. A few fair-weather cumulus clouds will be the only obstruction to pure sunshine. Once again, we’ve got a chilly night on the way, with low around 50 once again widespread Thursday with 40s expected over in the mountains.

Thursday keeps the sun-sational weather continuing, with high pressure remaining in control. Temperatures will begin to increase as our region begins to pick up on a return-flow as a southeasterly breeze kicks in – that’s a warmer and drier air flow, so humidity levels will be held in check. High temperatures will return to the mid to upper 70s.

Friday sees the mercury jump back up to around 80 degrees with plenty of sunshine still expected. That’s close to what we usually see this time of year, though with summertime temperatures returning, humidity levels will still be held in check, so it’ll feel great outside. Don’t forget about the UV index this time of year, which will be running very high still! In addition, with very dry conditions continuing, grass pollen will continue to be something we’ll be dealing with in the coming days.

Saturday continues the warming trend, but we’re staying dry! Mostly sunny skies and high temperatures back up into the mid 80s will really get that summertime feel going, but again, humidity level will be held in check, so it’s a great weekend to knock out some outdoor chores ahead. Keep in mind that it has been very dry in southern West Virginia – please don’t burn unless absolutely necessary!

Sunday sees partly sunny skies and temperatures jumping back into the mid 80s. A touch of humidity will begin to be felt, as our next storm system approaches from out in the Great Plains. That will bring the chances for rain back into the region by midweek, but until then, we are dry!

Monday is still sunny and toasty with a touch more humidity once again as we’ll see high temperatures in the mid 80s.

Tuesday brings the returning chance for an isolated shower or two with the combination of heat, humidity and a system approaching from our west. We’ll see highs once again in the mid 80s.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, isolated to widely scattered shower chances look to return for midweek next week with an upper-level wave scooting through. Temperatures Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will remain slightly above normal in the 80s. There are signs of a more potent front crossing toward next weekend, which could lower our temperatures to fall-like levels once again as we encroach on the beginning of September.
