BECKLEY, WV (WVNS)– Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Hatfield was cleared of a domestic violence protective order in court on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

A woman had filed the petition against him, claiming she had a relationship with Hatfield and accusing him of domestic violence.

In a hearing at the Raleigh County Judicial Center at 1 p.m., evidence was presented to Family Court Judge Harley E. Stollings, who ruled to dismiss the DVPO against Hatfield.

“I really just want to get back to doing my job and get back to my family and I’m looking forward to just getting my life back,” said Hatfield. “It’s been tossed upside down over the last couple days, and I want to continue doing good work and trying to lead my family.”

The entire hearing took around three and a half hours.

I think he’s a good man, he great at his job, Beckley is lucky to have him. I don’t know the situation he was in. I hope that he was really innocent. I’m sure if he wasn’t he would have already stepped down from his position, & he would have been charged for domestic violence, but he was cleared. I think that it’s a shame that anyone can make an accusation like that & even when you’ve proved your innocence, the accusations alone make a blemish on you. I think there needs to some kind of punishment for making false accusations.
