Man arrested in Summers County on drug-related charges

HINTON, WV (WVNS) – It has been a busy year for the Summers County Sheriff’s Department.

Some of that work finally paid off, culminating in the arrest of an alleged fentanyl distributer in the county.

On the morning of August 21, 2024, Sheriff Justin Faris arrested Alfred Armstead in a coordinated traffic stop.

I did a felony traffic stop without incident. No shots were fired and he came peacefully. I think he knew that the gig was up at that point.”

According to the officials with the Summers County Sheriff’s Department, Armstead trafficked fentanyl through the Beckley area.

Sheriff Faris said this arrest was the result of months of planning after Armstead allegedly made several drug purchases with confidential informants.

Sheriff Faris also said he could not be happier with his team.

It’s not very often for us that we’re able to get a target of this caliber, because he was supplying several people throughout the county.”

According to Sheriff Faris, this is just the beginning. He said this arrest could lead to even more drug arrests in Southern West Virginia.

I know they’re probably watching this interview right now. If you’re like ‘I wonder if he knows [who I am],’ yes, we know everyone that he was dealing with. We’re coming after you next and just be warned if you want to sell drugs in Summers County, we’re going to make it hard on you.”
