OAK HILL, WV (WVNS)– A Fayette County community came together to clean up their city and cook out on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

Volunteers gathered at the Oak Hill amphitheater at 8:45 a.m., and then split up onto different routes to help pick up litter in the area.

They helped pick up trash, cleaned windows and sidewalks, and even helped plant some flowers to beautify the town.

Volunteers with U.S. Cellular also came out for the first time to target the more neglected areas of Oak Hill. Store manager Michael Donnelly said he brought some of his team to participate, and they filled up seven large bags.

“We went and hit the east end of Oak Hill and did trash pickup for about a mile and a half stretch on both sides of the road,” said Donnelly. “We were glad to be here and, you know, get our hands dirty, be a part of the community, and we are looking forward to the next one.”

The day of clean up ended with a hard-earned cookout for everyone to talk and enjoy some food.

This clean up was part of the “Build the Hill” campaign with support from the West Virginia Community Development Hub.
