MORGANTOWN, WV ( WVNS ) — In a not-so-surprising move, former Mountaineer football great, Pat McAfee will be bringing his show to the hills of Morgantown ahead of the regular season kickoff against Penn State.

The announcement was made during an episode of The Pat McAfee Show on August 22, 2024 .

According to McAfee, this special episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” will take place at 12 PM eastern on Friday, August 30, 2024, in front of the Life Sciences building which is near where the old Mountaineer field used to sit.

During the 2023-24 college football season, Pat McAfee his crew would do a live show from the set of “College Gameday” the Friday before each big game. However, this newest pregame show will be different than past.

5 Mountaineers included in 2025 Senior Bowl Watch List

ESPN decided to send the “College Gameday” crew to the Texas A&M versus Notre Dame game in College Station, Texas for the official week one of the season. That decision left the door wide open for FOX to come to Morgantown with their “Big Noon Kickoff” crew.

While ESPN’s iconic College Gameday crew will not be in West Virginia, possibly the most electric member of their team will be making a homecoming.

McAfee was a kicker for the Mountaineers from 2005 to 2008, before being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. Once his career came to a close, he would go down as one of the most electric and exciting punters in NFL history.

Penn State comes into Morgantown ranked eighth in the nation returning starting quarterback Drew Allar. The Nittany Lions beat the Mountaineers in 2023 by a score of 38 to 15. While both teams comes into the season with high expectations, WVU and Penn State have much to show to prove they truly belong in the newly installed 12-team College Football Playoff.
