High school football preview: James Monroe Mavericks

LINDSIDE, WV (WVNS) – The Mavericks of James Monroe completed a stellar regular season in 2023, with their only loss being to Greenbrier West. Big wins during the regular season at Wheeling Central in their season opener 45-32, at home against Summers County 50-26, at home against Midland Trail 49-0 and at Nicholas County 28-12 solidified James Monroe as one of the top single-A teams in the state.

After a convincing first round win against Sherman as the 1 seed 48-15 and a quarterfinal beatdown against 8 seed Cameron 17-0, the Mavericks faced the only team that beat them in the regular season once again in Greenbrier West. Greenbrier West would beat them in the semifinals 27-7, sending the Mavericks home.

The Mavericks will to rekindle the magic they experienced in 2023 and make an even deeper run into the playoffs to compete for a state championship this season.
