High school football preview: Independence Patriots

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) – After Judah Price (2022) and Atticus Goodson (2021) won both the Kennedy Award and Warner Awards the previous two seasons, it would certainly be understandable to see a drop in performance from Independence in 2023.

However, after a slow start to the season that saw Indy sitting at 2-3 through the first 5 games of the season, Indy completed four straight shutouts to race into the playoffs, making a spectacular run upsetting both Roane County in the first round as a 14 seed and then shutting out Winfield in the quarterfinals before losing to Fairmont Senior in the semifinals of the playoffs.

Look for Independence to continue their winning ways – they’ll begin the season with a great test – a marquee matchup on Thursday to kickstart the season against recent rival Herbert Hoover.
