ATHENS, WV (WVNS) — Concord University announced that Enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year outpaced the increase from last year.

According to a press release from Concord University, despite an anticipated upcoming “enrollment cliff,” student enrollment at Concord University for the 2024-2025 school year went past the increase from 2023-2024.

This result comes from the good work our entire faculty and staff is doing each day, and I could not be prouder. We continue to make strides in student success, our academic programming is rigorous and expanding with new opportunities, we are enhancing the student experience, and our facility improvements ensures this remains The Campus Beautiful

Kendra Boggess | Concord University President

The press release from Concord University stated that once the first week of classes was finished, 1,956 students were registered at Concord University. The almost 2,000 registered students marked an 8.8 percent increase from the number of registered students in Fall 2023, according to the press release.

The 1,956 students enrolled at Concord University for the 2024-2025 school year include more than 150 students from other institutions that transferred to Concord University, as well as 455 freshman students. The press release stated that part of the enrollment success was because of first-time freshman who stayed from the previous year.

According to the press release, 36 percent of the incoming freshman students received college credits in high school, and 74 students are PROMISE scholars. The PROMISE scholars, as well as the students with college credits from high school, will come to Concord University with an average of 17 finished college credit hours.

According to Concord University, some of the top majors for undergraduate students were business, education, social work, the health sciences, and biology, based off of Fall 2024 enrollment during the first week of the academic year.

Not only was there an increase in enrollment, Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs also saw increases as well, according to the press release.
