Hot and sunny for your Wednesday; unsettled pattern the next several days

    By Matt Cassada,

Wednesday morning starts mild and dry so expect an easy drive to work. Temps will quickly warm up into the 80s for lunchtime, getting into the 90s by the late afternoon. Little in the way of cloud cover will push a high UV index today, along with near record heat, take plenty of break, stay hydrated, and it wouldn’t hurt to get some sunscreen.

Wednesday evening will see clouds build in across our northern counties. As a cold front approaches, we could see an isolated shower across our northern MTN counties, but chances do look few and far between. Partly cloudy skies for most as overnight lows drop into the 60s yet again.

Thursday sees our frontal system stall out across West Virginia and Virginia. This will lead to some afternoon convection possible, but not much in the morning. Mostly sunny skies on the morning commute turns partly cloudy as temps push into the 90s. A few storms will be slow moving, which could lead to some locally heavy rainfall.

Friday brings in a dry and sunny start of the morning commute. Enough breaks in the clouds through lunchtime will get temps in the middle to upper 80s later in the afternoon. After enjoying some morning breaks, the heat and humidity will cause isolated to scattered showers to form up as people begin the commute back home.

Saturday brings in a cold front out from the west. Morning travels to start the weekend should be in good shape with temps in the 60s/70s. As our cold front moves in during the afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected. Locally heavy rainfall also looks possible as showers linger into the overnight.

Sunday morning will start with isolated showers around the region so expect a soggy trip at times to church. Afternoon will continue to see hit or miss showers, and a few thunderstorms, but rain chance are expected to decrease as our front departs. Cooler air should start to move in, causing temps to be in just the low 80s.

Labor Day Monday is trending on the dry side as a high pressure system is expected to build in up to our north. A few clouds will help with the occasional sun glare during the morning commute, but cloud cover should erode away by dinnertime. Thankfully, cooler air once again keeps us mild throughout the day with highs in just the 70s.

Tuesday again is keeping high pressure around, which will help keep the sunny skies around. Mostly sunny skies are expected through the morning and afternoon as temps warm up near 80.

In your extended forecast, high pressure looks to build in for much of the following week, leading to a sunny forecast for much of next week. Our next system doesn’t look to arrive until the following weekend, leading to another dry trend to start off September.
