BLUEFIELD, VA (WVNS) – There is another sport being brought to southern West Virginia.

A lady named Marian Brown, whose family is big into lacrosse in the Blacksburg, Virginia area is trying to form a lacrosse league started in Bluefield.

Lacrosse is one of the oldest sports, started by the Native American many years ago and is played with a lacrosse stick.

“As we are seeing our kids struggle, spending too much time on their screens, we are looking for ways to help our young people and sports are a great way for kids to stay active. Working with a coach, being a part of a team is really good for kids as they are growing up. It is something that you can start playing when you’re young and there are adult leagues,” said Brown.

The initial Bluefield ‘Try Lacrosse Day’ is completely free for those attending and will take place at Mitchell Stadium on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This lacrosse day will be for boys and girls of all ages.

Brown is also looking for coaches and volunteers to help run the league and get it up and going. No prior lacrosse experience is required, as Brown says she also is learning on the fly.
