HINTON, WV (WVNS) – Many people are fortunate to have Labor Day off. After all it is intended to be a day free of labor, right?

Will mail be delivered on Labor Day?

Because Labor Day is such a busy travel holiday, as well as the unofficial last day of summer, there must be people working.

Jonathan Lipscomb, a park naturalist at Bluestone State Park held down the fort during the holiday.

“We are out here making sure that the residents of West Virginia and anybody visiting has the opportunity to best see what West Virginia has to offer,” said Lipscomb.

Kenny Monks, the Youth Director at Camp Meeting on the Greenbrier was not originally supposed to be in West Virginia for Labor Day weekend, but after a series of events, he found himself travelling up from South Carolina to help lead the youth.

“I am actually using my vacation time to be here. To me, what is more important than making a paycheck is what we get out of things like this spiritually because we cannot take any of this money with us wherever we go,” said Monks.

An attendee at the Labor Day Weekend camp, Daniel Harris, is a truck owner and operator. He also works a secondary job at a pastor of a local church.

Between his busy long weeks and weekends, Harris told 59News how he celebrates Labor Day.

“It is full of a lot of extra work a lot of times. I do a lot of work on my trucks. This particular Labor Day, I have a few extra hours of rest. I am thankful for that. My wife, of course, always says every holiday, ‘I guess it’s another working holiday.’ It usually is for an owner and operator,” said Harris.

Where did the rule of not wearing white after Labor Day come from?

No matter what job you are working extra for this Labor Day, 59News thanks you for all your hard work and dedication to serving the local community.
