Public’s help needed in Mercer County animal cruelty investigation

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The City of Bluefield asked for the public’s help regarding an animal cruelty investigation.

According to a Facebook post from the Mercer County Animal Shelter, a puppy was abandoned at the top of Thorn Street in the Bluefield area of Mercer County for at least the third time in 2024.

The Facebook post stated that while the two puppies that were dropped in the area earlier in the year were not in bad health, they barely avoided being hit by cars due to being abandoned in a dangerous area.

According to the Mercer County Animal Shelter, the third puppy that was found abandoned is emaciated, anemic, dehydrated, and worm and flea infested.

The Mercer County Animal Shelter stated that staff members gave the puppy a bath, as well as treating it for worms and fleas.

According to the Facebook post, anyone with information about the person or people who are abandoning the animals can contact ACO Shumate at 304 327 2401 extension 2454.

This is part of the state that needs blamed in animal cruelty cases there little jail time or none at all this is horrible what animals are subjected to 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
